A Painting of an Astronaut Setting Out on a Difficult but Important Mission, Dalle-2 2023

Two years ago my co-founder Jack and I identified a problem:

The way we consumed personal development content (the book Atomic Habits by James Clear for example) was identical to the way we consumed fiction (Harry Potter) 🤨

Radical life-altering (if applied) books, podcasts, and videos whose true purpose was self-improvement were being consumed in the exact same format as content whose purpose was entertainment.

We noticed an interesting but surprisingly common pattern — most of us read great books packed with life-changing ideas, listen to phenomenal podcasts full of wisdom, and get inspired by motivational videos only to… promptly never apply any of the learnings to our lives 🤦

It was one of those things that once you see, you can’t unsee.

So we got obsessed over why this was happening and went down the rabbit hole — talking to and learning from the world’s best personal development and behavioral change experts over the course of 2 years.

The answer, it turns out, was quite simple. The experts who created the personal development content and the consumers of it i.e. all of us didn’t have a choice.

The means of distribution for content — books (print and Kindle), podcasts (Spotify and Apple) and video (YouTube, Instagram and TikTok) are all designed primarily for entertainment, not learning and transformation. This has been the problem since the first self-help book was published in 1859!

We asked ourselves is there a better way? Was there an opportunity to revolutionize an entire category?

We think so, and that is why we built Framework. We believe that the best learning comes from *doing* so we designed a platform that makes it easy for users to take action after consuming content because the *doing* is where the transformations happen.

It’s a phenomenally better experience for consumers i.e. you.

  • Read about an idea that you want to implement? Boom, fill out a workbook right there 💥
  • Hear an expert talk about the value of checklists? Boom, create your own checklist right there or buy one from the expert 💥
  • Want to track your progress toward a goal? Boom, start logging progress 💥
  • Watch a thought-provoking video? Boom, reflect in your digital journal right there 💥
  • Want to meet other folks who are consuming the same content as you to motivate each other? Boom, join a community right there 💥

What about our customers i.e. the personal development experts who are creating digital complements to their books, podcasts, and youtube videos on Framework?

It’s game-changing 👀 Why? Because now they have a direct relationship with their audience and they can identify superfans that want to go deeper on their content. We are already seeing that this has massive positive implications for the economics of being a personal development expert.

Don’t just take my word for it, however. Some of the world’s biggest names in the personal development and behavior change industry are starting to use Framework to deliver a better way of consuming their content. In the coming weeks, we’ll showcase a number of these folks. It’s not every day that you get to revolutionize an entire category and boy are we excited!

It hasn’t been a straight line to get here, however. In the next issue of the newsletter, I’ll open up the kimono on one of the darkest days in the history of our company.

Until then!

P.S. What does it say about our society when we have 7 different platforms (that I know of) like OnlyFans dedicated to deepening the connection between adult entertainment content creators and their patrons 🙃? Ideas that can change lives, transform businesses and heal relationships when implemented deserve their own dedicated platform. How much more impact could personal development experts have? How much better would the world be if more people could reach their goals and transform their lives?

This is a cause worth fighting for, and we’re on a mission to make it happen. If you’re following our journey and want to support us, please like and share this newsletter with your friends because soldiers don’t win wars, armies do 👊
